I'm averaging 1 call a week.  So 'The Electric Cafe' ' BBS is down
permanently.

Sorry, I gave it a shot and there wasn't enough interest.  Not worth paying
the electric to keep it going.

I think I only visited twice, probably as a guest, and didn't
contribute any content. However, for those two moments it was fun to
relive what was a large part of my 80's.

I'm currently feeling a period of Atari nostalgia but unfortunately
BBSing was low on the priority list, sorry.

Forums filled the void left by the demise of the BBSes.  I guess it was
too late to go back.

In any case, thanks for offering the service.

I appreciate that.  Keep in mind if there is ever a resurgance of Atari
BBS's I will consider putting it back up.  Right now 1 or 2 8bit BBS's just
seems a bit weak.  One would expect the remaining few BBS's to be just
slammed with activity.

Commodore 64 and Amiga based BBS's are still going pretty well.
Nothing like the old days, but when I ran The Warpzone I often got
several calls per day.  Atari just doesn't seem to be as popular for
BBS systems, but they do exist.  BBS's are one of my favorite things of
the old days, I am working a project for Commodore and now Atari as
well that kind of merges the old and new of BBS's and Internet.

Take a look at .  Look at the BBS Listings, you'll see
there are several BBS's, and several do have regular activinty.

Thanks,

Tom

Actually I continued to use BBSes until the early-mid 90's but that was
a large RBBS or TBBS system and I never once chatted with the SYSOP.
The experience just wasn't the same as in the AMIS and Nitelite days on
the Atari.

I never owned any Commodore systems (nor Atari ST/TT systems) so I have
no experiences and therefore no fond memories.   There's nothing to
re-live there, not for me.

I used to use BBSes until about 1995 as well.   Internet didn't reach our
neck of the woods until about 1994 or 1995, so the BBSes were the bread and
butter of the local perverts and software pirates.

It was always my desire to operate my own local BBS, but the emergence of
the Internet pretty much killed off that idea.   Shame too, as I had
collected a whole pile of files to offer on my BBS -- files that I hadn't
the hardware or the interest to use.

Played with a bunch of BBS software while working toward my fantasy BBS.
Everything from AMIS, Carina, BBS Express, and FoReM for the Atari 8-bit,
to Public Address, Mansion, Pancake, and one other whose name I don't
recall, for the Macintosh.

Ah well, all's well that ends well...  And on that note, I'll end this post.

Hey Tom. My BBS seems to be doing okay. Probably not as good as the Amiga
ones, with their larger surviving user base, but I'm happy with the
results I've seen since re-opening via telnet.

Besides that, its just too darned fun being a sysop! :-)

I can't say I'm slammed with activity, but we're doing alright. There are
good days (10-15 calls) and bad days (less than 3) of course, but we're
averaging 5-6 calls a day.

I'm happy with that.
